Self sufficiency and preserving the environment
The vast project region covers over 300km2, 21 communities and 3 cantons. The entire population are Indian Quechua farmers. It is considered to be the most impoverished region of Bolivia.
The plan is to revitalize the high plateaus of Bolivia by developing local actions that will affect the economy, the food industry, the environment and women’s rights. Setting up support for organisation and production issues (developing livestock and crop farming, mini-funding), has led to self sufficiency and higher incomes in the region. We have also started monitoring ecosystem issues (soil conservation, reforestation) and equipping households with improved energy saving technology.
A bilingual intercultural and informal course is set up to ensure the project’s long term future, it is aimed in particular at women.
