A rediscovered autonomy

A wind turbine was set up for the use of the open school which opened in January 2007, for children who are no longer part of the formal educcation system (due to school failure or drop-out, psychological or financial problems which forced them to work). Previously, the children were accommodated in buildings temporarily lent to BLESS, our local partner in charge of the project.

The awareness campaigns covered rain water recuperation, dry toilets, organic farming and biogas. Of which a number of units have been set up in a number of houses throughout the region.

In Karunanidhi, 64 houses were built, using adobe bricks; an ecological and earthquake safe alternative to ciment.
