Restoring a livelihood
Project region: Little Andaman and South Andaman Islands
Duration: 2 years (January 2006 to March 2008)
Aim: Setting up community centres
Course of action:
- building and repairing 7 community development centres
- training courses: sewing, crafts, cooking, computing and medicinal plants
- organising self help groups
Training centres
A number of training courses; from sewing to cooking were set up in the 7 new or refurbished buildings.
The women have set up self help groups to improve the quality of life in the community.

Reequipping fishermen
Project region : Little and South Andaman islands
Duration : 2 years (January 2006 to January 2008)
Aim : supporting the local fishermen
Course of action :
- distributing fishing equipment
- financial support for the 5 fishing cooperatives
- organising groups of fishermen
- building and repairing fish boats
Helping to maintain fishing
Straight after the tsunami we organised a first wave of support by distributing equipment to the local fishermen and financing the fishing cooperatives.
Our long term project was to organise the fishermen into groups, repair or replace their boats and restore their livelihoods
