Solidarité was created in 1980 and as an international solidarity organisation is governed by the law of the 1st of July 1901. It is a non-profit organisation with no religious, political or economical adherence.
Solidarité leads initiatives in Africa, South America, Asia and Europe. Working in the southern hemisphere with local organisations exclusively, it encourages alternative and self-help projects that enable the deprived to gain their independence. In the northern hemisphere, Solidarité’s main objective is to inform the public and raise awareness about the interactions between the North and the South and encourage a more critical approach to development.
This organisation was established by men and women who have participated in social and economic research throughout the southern hemisphere and Europe since the 1960’s. The founding members of Solidarité were inspired by the pioneers of critical thinking concerning development such as François Partant and Gandhi.
The philosophy and guide lines that Solidarité values and respects are defined in the deontological charter that was officially established in 1980 and last revised in 2009.
