Trainings in India

SOLIDARITÉ provides courses in Southern India about topics such as “Rethinking development and discovering the rural world of the South” or “becoming an eco-actor”.

Every summer since 2003, a group of about fifteen people is hosted for 15 days within a post-development training centre. Then the participants choose one of our partners to carry out a period of field training, during two to six months.

Our training and documentation centre in India, the IITPD, has been completely reorganised and its fields of action increased. As a result of this restructuration, the team of Solidarité India chose to rename the centre. It is now called “CATAMARAN”.

From IITPD to CATAMARAN

The ITTPD opened its doors in Chettikuppam in 2003. This training and information centre is not only for professionals but also for any one interested in alternative development (students, coordinators, social workers, members of international solidarity organisations, ...). It has a network of international searchers and social workers and is a resource center on post-development.

The new centre Catamaran has broadened its actions early 2012 with the addition of new activities, such as ones related to environmental awareness.

Since 2003, over 3000 social workers from India and Europe, and more than a hundred European and Canadian students have already called on us.

Catamaran centre

What is the purpose of a post development research center ?

It is widely agreed that the western development model has failed to meet the needs of the most impoverished. The gap between rich and poor countries has continued to widen.

In 1960, developed countries were 20 times richer than the developing countries, in 1982 they were 42 times richer and this tendency continues to grow.

Therefore the training center is the ideal place for students, searchers and social workers to meet around a common theme : What are the alternative actions to be undertaken for our socioeconomic environment ? Propose, analyze, adapt itself and act for the most deprived persons.

The aim is to sensitize men and women to other ways of considering the world, alternative ways of life and to rethink the notion of development.

Internship in India

Every year since 2003, SOLIDARITÉ offers students internship positions in India to complete their studies. This experience gives them theoretical and practical knowledge on a wide variety of subjects such as international solidarity, post-development, access to land, organic farming, micro credit and savings, biodiversity, food sovereignty, ecology and environment.

Each internship comprises two parts:

- the first one (15 days) at the training centre

- the second one (several months) on immersion in a project.

The internships are validated by an « International certificate on post-development study».
